📖 Scripture Focus
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’” – 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
🌟 Message from DM9, LLC
This week’s Faith Fridays highlights the story of David and Saul—a powerful lesson on obedience, patience, and purpose.
When Saul disobeyed God, he lost his kingdom, and the Lord directed Samuel to anoint a new king from the house of Jesse. But Samuel, like most of us, judge by appearance. As he looked at Jesse’s eldest son, Eliab, God reminded him: “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7).
This truth speaks volumes. Many times, people will overlook us because of what they see on the outside, but God looks at our heart and sees our true potential.
Even after David was anointed as the next king, he didn’t step into his role immediately. He had to wait patiently and serve King Saul before God’s timing was fulfilled. David’s story is a reminder that preparation, patience, and obedience are necessary for the elevation that God has promised us.
My mother used to say, “Another man’s downfall is another man’s blessing.” Saul’s failure led to David’s anointing, but it was David’s heart and obedience that prepared him to walk into the opportunity when the time was right.
💡 Athletes
True champions aren’t made overnight. Just like David, you may be anointed for greatness, but you still have to put in the work, stay disciplined, and remain patient until it’s your time. The process is just as important as the promise. Don’t get discouraged when others overlook you—God sees what’s in your heart.
💡 Parents
As parents, we often focus on what we see in our children—their talents, abilities, and potential. But God sees what’s in their heart. Encourage your children to cultivate character, humility, and faith. Remind them that their preparation today will prepare them for the opportunities that God has for them in the future.
💡 Coaches/Mentors
As coaches and mentors, we have the privilege of shaping not only the skills but also the character of young athletes. Like Samuel, we may be tempted to focus on outward abilities, but our responsibility is to nurture what’s in the heart. Instill discipline, faith, and perseverance in your athletes—those qualities will prepare them for greatness beyond the field.
🙏🏾 Reflection
Are you focused on outward appearances or trusting God to develop what’s inside? Like David, are you willing to serve faithfully and wait patiently until God’s timing brings your purpose to pass?
This week, reflect on where God is growing you in obedience, discipline, and patience. Remember, preparation leads to promotion when the heart is in the right place.
