1. Introduction: The Courage to Stand Alone
> “But Daniel resolved not to defile himself…”
(Daniel 1:8, NIV)
In a world where approval and favor from people often outweigh the quiet call of obedience, Daniel’s story reminds us what it looks like to stand firm in faith—even when it’s unpopular, dangerous, or uncomfortable.
Like Daniel, I’ve had to choose faith over favor in building DM9, LLC and Diamonds of Distinction. This platform wasn’t built for attention—it was built from obedience, sacrifice, and a desire to help young men grow in faith, discipline, and purpose.

2. The Setup: Faithfulness Always Faces Resistance
> “So the administrators and the satraps went as a group to the king and said… ‘Anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den.’”
(Daniel 6:6-7, NIV)
Daniel wasn’t targeted because he was doing wrong—he was targeted because of his faithful consistency. He was excellent in character, committed in prayer, and devoted to God in private and public.
At DM9 and Diamonds of Distinction, I’ve learned that when you commit to building something on faith and truth, resistance will come. People will question your motive. Opposition will rise. But the real question is: Will you stay committed when favor fades and pressure shows up?

3. The Test: Choosing Faith Over Safety
> “Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home… Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”
(Daniel 6:10, NIV)
Daniel had every reason to back down—to blend in, to wait until things cooled off—but he chose faith over favor and obedience over comfort. His faith wasn’t shaken by fear of consequences.
That’s the challenge I give to the young men and women in our program:
Will you be consistent when it’s hard?
Will you hold to your values when pressure comes?
Will you trust God when walking by faith is uncomfortable?
—
4. The Outcome: Promotion Through the Pit
> “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions… because I was found innocent in his sight.”
(Daniel 6:22, NIV)
Daniel’s faith led him into the lions’ den—but it didn’t end there. His faith protected him, his obedience promoted him, and his stand gave glory to God.
That’s the same vision behind Diamonds of Distinction—to raise up young men who won’t fold under pressure, who walk in excellence, and whose lives give glory to God. Promotion doesn’t come from popularity. It comes from consistency in character and trust in the Lord.

5. Application: Lessons from Daniel for Athletes and Leaders
Faith Over Favor Means:
Standing alone if necessary
Remaining consistent in prayer and preparation
Choosing what’s right over what’s easy
Trusting God to promote in His time
Whether you’re on the field, in the classroom, or building your future—like Daniel, stay faithful. The lions may come, but God is still in control.

6. Reflection: Challenge Yourself This Week
Ask Yourself:
Do I seek the approval of people or the approval of God?
Am I faithful when no one’s watching?
Do I fold under pressure or stand firm in truth?
Daniel’s life teaches us this truth: Favor can be taken, but faithfulness opens doors no man can shut.
—
7. Final Charge: Be a Daniel in Today’s World
To every young man, student-athlete, and future leader:
Don’t chase favor—walk in faith. Stand when it’s hard. Trust God when it’s tough. Obedience may cost you something now, but it will bring you everything in due season.
> “Well done, good and faithful servant.” That’s the reward.
